Hadji Mollah Mohammed Hassan Mohtasham was one of the great master weavers of 19th century Persia. His workshop was located in Kashan, Central Persia - a centre of weaving excellence and ancient craftsmanship. Scholars have suggested that Hassan Mohtasham invented this fine and very tight weaving method using white cotton warp threads and double wefts.
